"bark bark bark woof woof woof!"

*lol* I am the first to set foot in here? Well, I guess somebody has to do it, so why not?

I am an American of French/Irish/Algonquian(?) descent, raised in the mixed culture of a French parish in New England. I am in my fifties and I am an artist and hiker, (although I have been sedentary of late). I believe the principles of harmonic living or lowest-impact living are very important. I started a group called "Gardening Along The Red Path" for exploring ways we can all honor our red heritage by practicing these principles.

I am very grateful to Red Wolf and his friends for the effort they are putting into establishing this community and publishing the wonderful main site that goes with it.

Added 3/18/08: I finally got the results of my paternal grandfather, who I thought was Algonquian because of how he lived and the fact we grew up among so many, but he was purely French going back nine generations, and none of the records appear to be baptized Algonquian people. C'est la vie, eh? I still have to get the genealogy of my paternal grandmother.

This does not change the heritage I value, or the path I trod.

That's a lovely intro Little Dog. What an interesting heritage you have. Mine is more ordinary lol :)

UK born and bred (South Wales so of Celtic extraction) lived in various parts of the UK before moving to Cyprus in the Eastern Med several years ago. I like the idea of harmonic living although I have a ways to go with that...

Shall have to take a look at your gardening group. I hope you are having a lovely week so far,
Debs

Hi,
Yes this place has been quiet, hasn't it?
Welcome Debs. Feel free to open new threads or revive old ones.

Nice that you are in Cyprus. One of the things I have been busy in is orchids, and I recently found out there are a lot of orchids in Cyprus from which they make a special kind of ice cream that is more like a frozen taffy.... Orchis Maculata, I think that is the name....

Have you eaten any of that? The dessert is called "saloop" and is a Turkish thing, too.

Hi both,

thanks for the welcomes.

No I haven't heard of that dessert or the ice cream Little Dog but I will have to look out for both. Maybe in the South of Cyprus where I live we have different names for them and I just didn't realise what I was eating!

I think you would have known, because it is not made from milk. It is made from a special flour that is made from the tuber of the orchid. That is why it has a taffy-like texture, or so I'm told :)
